Grenada is a three island state made up of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Grenada, the largest of the three, is one hundred and thirty-three square miles.

Also known as the Spice Isle, Grenada is a beautiful Caribbean island that boasts of calm, clear waters and lush tropical landscapes. The nickname "Spice Isle" comes from the fact that the island is a leading producer of spices including cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

Just like the majority of the Caribbean islands, Grenada's main money earner is Tourism. One of the most popular tourism oriented areas in Grenada is Grande Anse. Other tourism areas are Lance Aux Epines and Point Salines. The island is known for both white and black sandy beaches and excellent water activities.

Grand Anse - Home to the Flamboyant Hotel

Grand Anse is home to many hotels and tourism oriented businesses. One of the more popular hotels, The Flamboyant, is located on a slight incline which gives all guests an unimpaired view of Grand Anse Bay, the nearby capital St. Georges and the hills of the country. The hotel is located about ten minutes walk from a supermarket, small cafe, restaurants and local buses.

One of the more popular restaurants is the Owl, which can be found on the Flamboyant's premises. The restaurant offers a tasty buffet on Sundays which includes a starter, main course and dessert. On Tuesdays, there are the highly anticipated crab races which feature hermit crabs in numerous races. Spectators are given the opportunity to place bets on the crabs and if they win, prizes are awarded.

St. George's, The Capital of Grenada

St. George's, the capital of Grenada, is a beautiful bustling town. One of the most beautiful feaures is the careenage which is framed by a main road, businesses and government buildings cascading into the hills. Other attractions in St.George's are Fort George, The Grenada National Museum, Sendall Tunnel and Market Square. The capital, like many others in the Caribbean, is the main shopping area in the country. There ar many shops and street vendors especially in Market Square, catering to both locals and tourists.

Sightseeing in the Spice IsleGrenada is a tropical paradise. The island is very mountainous and many areas of the island are protected gullies and national parks. Although only one hundred and thirty-two square miles, the island has many attractions. There are island tours and hikes which are designed to let visitors experience the untouched beauty of the island. Many tours, like Mandoo Tour and Taxi Service, include lunch and entrance fees to attractions. Must-sees on the island are the waterfalls, nutmeg and cocoa stations, rum distilleries and Grand Etang. In addition, there are whale watching tours, tubing along the country's rivers, snorkelling and diving.

Carriacou and Petit Martinique - The Sister Islands

Carriacou, although part of the tri-island state of Grenada, is the largest island in the Grenadines with an area of thirteen square miles. The island has a very small airport, but is accessed via the more popular Osprey ferry. The ferry operates a daily service from Grenada to Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Petit Martinique is approximately one square mile in size and is about two and a half miles from Carriacou.
